Centre, state unfazed by crisis in state: Loskeshwar

Imphal, August 05 2023: Expressing serious resentment over alleged hesitancy in summoning emergency session of the Manipur Legislative Assembly and instead opting for normal session on August 21 after end of the Parliamentary session, Congress MLA Th Lokeshwar has accused both the state and central governments of not paying any heed to the present crisis engulfing the state.

Addressing media persons at his Keishampat residence here on Saturday, Lokeshwar, who represents Khundrakpam assembly constituency, regretted that even after three of the violence in the state no serious efforts are being made to stabilise the situation as people continue to get killed on a daily basis.

Amid such critical time it is irrational that the state government is unfazed with persistent calls from diverse sections of the society to hold emergency assembly session thereby testifying that the state government and the centre do not value life and protest of the people.

He further informed that the state government is also not in a position to deploy additional state forces in Moreh.

In addition, the government is also remaining as a mute spectator when attempts are being made by Kuki people to convert the sericulture office at Torbung Bangla into a graveyard of the Kukis.

If the present crisis is not solved at the earliest, there could be civil war, Lokeshwar cautioned and added that despite knowing the fact that the present war is not between the Meiteis and the Kukis but a war waged by terrorists from across the border against the Meitei community, it is unacceptable that the state government has not informed about seriousness of the issue to the ministry of external affairs.

He also pointed out the need for the political parties, CSOs and the public to unitedly fight against all aggressions in the state.

The 40 MLAs of the valley districts should also unite, he added.

Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee president K Meghachandra, who was also present at the media briefing condemned the murder of three Meitei people by armed Kuki militants at Kwakta village on Saturday and questioned intention of the AR personnel in blocking the state forces who were on their way to Kwakta.

Such acts show that there is no coordination between the state and the central government.

A special team needs to be formed to investigate lack of coordination between the state forces and the AR personnel, he emphasised.
