AMMOCOC demands justice, TADA calls for restraint

Imphal, January 02 2024: Condemning in the strongest term the incident that took place in Lilong New Year's day, All Manipur Muslim Organisations' Coordinating Committee (AMMOCOC) has announced its unstinted support to the JAC formed in connection with the incident, declaring it will not rest until justice is served.

On the other hand, Triangular Anti-Drug Association (TADA) has appealed to all to refrain from communalising the firing incident.

Addressing a press meet at his Hatta residence, here, on Tuesday, president SM Jalal said AMMOCOC and its constituent organisations strongly condemn the incident, which claimed four lives and left 14 injured, and share the grief and pain of the victim families.

He said that CSOs of the state played crucial role in clearing misunderstandings and preventing the incident from taking a communal angle, continuing the long-drawn relationship of fraternity and brotherhood.

The CSOs will continue to play proactive role in averting unwanted incidents in future too, he assured.

Asserting that the act committed by the armed men, who wore uniforms similar to that of security forces, is highly condemnable as such activities can create conflict in the state, he demanded the group responsible to issue public clarification.

While reiterating that AMMOCOC and its constituent organisations will extend full support to the JAC formed, president Jalal also appreciated the assurance given.by the chief minister on Monday, but affirmed that AMMOCOC and its constituent units will not rest until justice is delivered.

On the other hand, TADA, a joint organisation of Meetei and Meitei Pangal residents of Kyamgei, Kyamgei Muslim and Bashikhong, has appealed to all to refrain from indulging in any act that may communalise the Lilong incident.

Addressing a press meet held at Kyamgei Thongkhong on Tuesday, TADA co-convenor Ahmad Raja said that the unfortunate incident was not a conflict between Meetei and Meitei Pangal.

TADA strongly condemns the incident and places its trust on the Government that justice will be delivered, he said and appealed to the people of the state not to spread rumours and unconfirmed reports as such rumours may create misunderstanding and tension between the two communities.

According to TADA convenor Chingakham Meghachandra, some Kuki CSOs are taking advantage of the incident and circulating rumours by portraying the incident as a communal conflict.

He said that people of both communities in the neighbouring villages are living peacefully and there is no question of mistrust and advised Kuki CSOs and individuals to stop spreading lies.

He also appealed to people not to believe any unconfirmed or baseless reports and condemned silence of the Central government over the increasing attacks on state security forces in Moreh by Kuki narco-terrorists.
