VVS defers stir plan after CM's assurance

The proposed agitation of Village Volunteer Service (VVS), Khundrakpam has been deferred following assurance given by chief minister N Biren that security forces will be deployed in Khundrakpam assembly constituency to bring normalcy.
Addressing media persons in this regard on Sunday, WS convenor Nongthongbam Bobby informed that a public meeting of Khundrakpam assembly constituency was held on September 24 at Pukhao Laipham community hall during which it was resolved that the displaced people of Ikou, Yengkhom and Dolaithabi whose houses have been destroyed should be made 'to return to their respective houses by October 24, 2023 .
Accordingly, a memorandum was submitted to the chief minister on October 7 following which the chief minister called a joint meeting of the WS, meira paibi of 27 villages, village authorities and clubs.
During the meeting, the chief minister assured that the displaced people of Leitanpokpi, Mairepat and Dolaithabi will be made to return to their respective houses at the earliest, he said.
The chief minister also assured that a meeting will be convened with authorities concerned by October 16 and remove the bunkers, ensure placement of CRPF camp and an outpost of state force in Ikou area.
The chief minister also assured that a bailey bridge along Iril River to address transportation problems between Litanpokpi, Pukhao and Terapur will be constructed at the earliest, Bobby said while declaring the in respect of the chief minister's assurances, the proposed agitation has been deferred.
