Imphal, October 15 2023: Highlighting the crippling impact of the cease work strike being undertaken by oil tanker and LPG bullet drivers, convenors of Manipur petroleum dealers, transporters and LPG fraternity have sought immediate intervention of the Chief Minister to resolve the matter.

Convenors of Manipur petroleum dealers, transporters and LPG fraternity today submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister, CAF&PD Minister, Chief Secretary, Security Advisor to Government of Manipur, DGP and State heads of IOCL, BPCL, HPCL and Nayara Energy (Essar) .

The memorandum conveyed that all stakeholders including POL drivers' associations, POL transporters, bulk LPG and petroleum dealers of Manipur held a meeting on the current issue.

After interacting with the aggrieved drivers, it has been understood that the issue being faced by POL and bulk LPG drivers on NH-37 (Imphal-Jiribam route) is of severe nature which involves firing at vehicles, physical assault and harassment of drivers and rampant extortion at multiple areas which is increasing day by day, it said.

"Despite our sincere request to resume supply of fuel to the retail outlets, drivers/drivers' associations are determined to continue the strike until their demand to the Government for protection and safety is fulfilled", said the memorandum.

It then urged the Government and authorities concerned to resolve the matter at the earliest as underground tanks of over 90 per cent are now almost dry (except the dead stock) and only few retail outlets are having minimum stocks which will run out in three-four days.

This will lead to a very serious crisis of petroleum products in the State, it added.
