Kangpokpi, October 15 2023:
With the stated objective to exert pressure on the Government of India for granting separate administration demand, hundreds of Kuki-Zo women of Kangpokpi district congregated at Gamgiphai on Sunday afternoon and launched round-the-clock sit-in-protestin the presence of leaders of Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU), Sadar Hills.
On behalf of the protesting women, a woman leader informed media persons that Kuki-Zo women of Kangpokpi district collectively and unanimously decided to launch indifinite sit-in-protest from Sunday to draw urgent at tention of the Centre towards the immediate need to address the demand for a separate administration for the Kuki-Zo people.
While declaring that the protest will continue till the demand has been considered, she contended that separate administration for the Kuki-Zo people is legitimate and is not against the Constitution of India and the Government of India.
Having faith in the Government of India, Kuki-Zo people lifted economic blockade along the National Highways and even decided to claim bodies of Kuki-Zo people lying in morgues in Imphal.
However, despite all possible support and cooperation, the Government of India is yet to lend its ears to the grievances of Kuki-Zo people and this compelled the womenfolk to launch protest, she added.
The Kuki-Zo woman leader further said that national investigation agencies such as CBI and NIA have started investigations into different cases but Kuki-Zo people want equal treatment and justice.
All investigations of the CBI and NIA should not be biased but free from nepotism, she added.
