Accusing some volunteers of allegedly seizing planks of wood from a vehicle at Kakching Lamkhai, the Abungnikhu Village Authority has urged the relevant authority to book the culprits and settle the matter within a week.
A statement issued by Ts Behlung Anal, Chief, Abungnikhu Village Authority has shared that on October 9 around 3 pm, a vehicle carrying 400 cubic planks of wood belonging to Lh Hosanary w/o (L) Ts Venson of Abungnikhu village in Chandel district was stopped by volunteers led by Sk Sunny Lamkang of Soland village, Chandel and alleged CNPO executive and one Sambu, alleged leader of Kakching Lamkhai Volunteers.
The volunteers demanded a monetary sum from the owner of the planks/timber for reportedly not having a permit from the CNPO.
After negotiating over the sum to be paid, the vehicle which was driven by one Md Rahim from Sora was asked to halt for the night at Kakching Lamkhai.
Later on, 41 out of the 400 cubic of timber were found missing and subsequent complaints by the owner to the two aforementioned leaders did not bear any positive results.
Hence, the Abungnikhu Village Authority has appealed for speedy resolution of the matter and booking the responsible culprits within a week.
