Churachandpur, December 08 2023:
Students of Bachelor of Pharmacy (B Pham) of Government Polytechnic, Kangleipak Medical and Nursing Institute, Saraswati Institute of Management & Paramedical Sciences, who have been displaced from Imphal since May 3, 2023, registered their protest at the office gate of DC Churachandpur demanding arrangement for online classes for them by the institutions concerned.
During the protest which began from 11 am on Friday, a displaced B Pham student named Martin Khualthianson told this correspondent that it is duty of the authority concerned to make arrangement for online classes for displaced students but no such arrangement has been made to alleviate their difficulties even though their classmates are attending regular classes in Imphal.
He said that displaced Kuki-Zo students pursuing B Pham from institutions in Imphal prior to the violence have been deprived of their educational rights and demanded arrangement of online classes at Lamka Medical College.
He maintained that education is un-related with the current issue and political demand and students should not be made the scapegoat.
Later, a memorandum addressed to chief secretary, Manipur and president of Pharmacy Council of India was submitted through assistant commissioner to DC Churachandpur and it demanded making arrangement of online classes for displaced B Pham students at Churachandpur Medical College.
The memorandum signed by Joint Students' Body (JSB) convener said that a total of 35 students belonging to Kuki-Zo community studying B Pham at Government Polytechnic, Kangleipak Medical and Nursing Institute, Saraswati Institute of Management and Paramedical Sciences were evacuated to their respective home districts following outbreak of violence on May 3 .
As the situation deteriorated and violence continues for months, the students could not return to Imphal or attend physical classes at their respective institutions.
The matter was apprised to the director of Churachandpur Medical College and urged for arrangement of online classes regularly and conduct of examination in Churachandpur.
