Farmers urged to avail scheme benefits

Irabot Foundation Manipur (IFM) convened its 5th Loumeesingi Poinu Meepham under the theme 'Revival of economy through agricultural activities' at National Research Centre (NRC) hall, Canchipur on Friday.
As a part of the programme, five progressive farmers were honoured with presentation of cash, citation and shawl.
The five farmers are R Benison of Ukhrul (horticultural products), Bm Mubin Ahmad of Thoubal district (integrated vegetable farmer), Irom Samanda Singh of Khonghampat Khunou (livestock), Thiyam Ibochouba of Top Khabi Nambol (Meitei Ngakra/fisheries) and Th Bijen of Thiyam Konjil Imphal East district (rice production).
The programme was attended by Foundation president Kh Gopen Luwang, agriculture director N Gojendro, Manipur University Department of Economics professor Chinglen Maisnam and Indira Gandhi National Tribal University Department of Political Science associate professor Homen Thangjam as presidium members.
Speaking at the event, N Gojendro lauded the Foundation for organising such programme to encourage the farmers as it will not only empower them but will also help in getting acquainted with different schemes meant for them.
Pointing out that there are several schemes for farmers and the benefits of these can be reaped by registering through online or by visiting the agriculture office, he assured that the department's experts will extend all possible assistance to the farmers.
In his address, IFM president Kh Gopen Luwang stated that Poinu Meepham is a calendar programme of the Foundation convened with an objective to ensure that agricultural fields do not remain fallow after paddy cultivation.
The meet focusses on requirements, technologies and problems faced by farmers in planting vegetables, he said.
The meet also adopted several resolutions for improvement of economy of farmers, revive natural farming, frame water policy, declare Manipur as organic state within 2014 and frame farmers' agricultural market policy.
