Wayfarer in state to spur blood donation

On his mission to walk 21,000km across India with the message that no one should die due to shortage of blood, Simply Blood founder Kiran Verma reached here on Friday.
Talking to media persons at Manipur Press Club, here, upon his arrival, Kiran Verma said that he started the walk on December 28, 2021 from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala to create awareness among the people that no one should die due to blood shortage in the blood banks in India by 2025.Voluntary blood donation in India de dined significantly during the COVID-19 pandemic, which severely hit many patients across the globe, and this prompted him to launch the campaign for making the people aware about the importance of blood do nation so that no one dies from want of blood, he said, adding that his mission will hopefully help overcome the problem of blood shortage in blood banks and hospitals.
According to the 38-year old Delhi-born Kiran Verma, he had already covered 18 states of India and 17,000 km out of his targel to walk 21,000km."The main message of my mission is to encourage people to donate blood so that there is abundant blood with the opening of more blood banks," Kiran Verma said, adding that he had donated blood 48 times and thrice during his current mission.
After Imphal, Verma is planning to reach Mizoram, Tripura, and other parts of North East India.
He said that so far, 126 blood donation camps have been organised across the country to support his cause and 26,722 units have been collected.
"Every day more than 12,000 people fail to get blood in India, due to which more than 3 million people die waiting for blood.
If 5 million youth start donating blood, then there will be not even a single death due to non-availability of blood in India," Verma said, adding that nobody should die because of lack of blood by 2025 in India.
