Court asks CFSL to clarify DNA test row

Imphal, December 08 2023:
In order to clear the confusion in the court regarding the DNA test conducted in connection with the controversial death of Ningthoujam Babysana, Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Imphal West directed Directorate of Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) to despatch a responsible officer or a representative for the next hearing on January 15, 2024 .
The notice was issued during the hearing of the Criminal Misc FR (Final Report) case filed by the victim's father Ningthoujam Tomcha on Thursday.
The hearing was attended by petitioner/informant, counsels, CBI prosecutor and IO of the case.
During that hearing, the court demanded clarification about CFSL (KR)/367/ DNA/70/22/5098 dated 19-08-2022 or the document of Directorate of CFSL, Kamrup, Assam regarding the forensic report and remnant.
As such, the court issued notice asking the CFSL director to clarify confusion regarding the matter in the court.
It may be mentioned that Criminal Mise FR (final report) case was filed consequent to the final report submitted by CBI in May 2021 on the death of Ningthoujam Babysana in the hostel of Standard Robarth Higher Secondary School, Canchipur on July 18, 2019 .
The final report stated that charge sheet cannot be processed against the accused persons as there was no evidence against them.
The final report of the CBI was rejected by CJM Imphal West and reopened the case in March 2022 .
