Two from state held with 8.94 kg heroin

Continuing the crackdown on drug smuggling and trafficking syndicates operating in the northeast, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) arrested two people from Manipur at Dimapur in Nagaland along with 8.94 kg of heroin worth Rs 62.58 crore in the illicit international drug market.
According to source, acting on specific intelligence from GZU that two persons would be traveling from Manipur in a vehicle carrying substantial quantity of heroin smuggled from the Indo-Myanmar border, Dimapur RU officers mounted surveillance on the Kohima-Dimapur Highway and intercepted the suspect vehicle Mahindra Bolero at Dimapur in the afternoon.
On thorough rummaging of the vehicle, 17 brick-sized packets wrapped with brown cello tape containing whitish powder weighing 8.94 kg were found concealed inside the driver's side of the front door panel and inside the dashboard.
Tests conducted with the NDPS field test kit confirmed the presence of heroin in the recovered substance.
Subsequently, the recovered heroin consignment has been seized and two persons arrested under the NDPS Act, 1985 .
