AR joins anti-poppy drive, holds security meet

Imphal, December 08 2023:
Troops of IGAR (S) in collaboration with Manipur police and forest department destroyed 15 hectares of poppy plantation in Ukhrul district during a joint operation conducted on Wednesday and Thursday.
According to PRO IGAR (S), the joint operation was conducted as part of the "War on Drugs" campaign in general areas of Huishu village in Ukhrul district.
The campaign sends a strong message to the people who are explicitly involved in cultivation of illegal poppy in the region, the PRO added.
On the other hand, as part of Operation Sadbhavana, Assam Rifles organised a National Integration Tour for students and teachers from diverse schools in Kamjong district.
The two-week tour will provide exposure to various civil and military institutions in Mumbai and Pune, the PRO conveyed.
Assam Rifles also organised an interaction programme with Meira Paibis and locals of Leimaram, Nambol and Maibam Chingmang villages in Bishnupur district on Thursday.
Moreover, sports items including football, cricket kit, volleyball and other equipment were distributed to the locals of L Janglenphai village in Kangpokpi district during a civic action programme held on Friday.
Meanwhile, personnel from Assam Rifles volunteered to donate blood for a father facing kidney failure and was urgently in need of some blood units for dialysis.
The son of the ailing father conveyed gratitude to the soldiers of 4 Assam Rifles for their invaluable support during this challenging time, the PRO added.
