Sit-ins denounce execution of 13 Meeteis

Imphal, December 08 2023:
A mass sit-in protest was organised jointly by Friends in Need Society (FINES), Heirok and Heirok Part II Bazar Mamang Apunba Meira Paibi at 'Meira' shed on Friday decrying the execution of 13 Meetei youths at Leithao village in Tengnoupal district on December 4 .
The protestors demanded arrest of the culprits, allegedly belonging to Kuki community, and punishment as per law of the land.
Speaking to media persons, one Thokchom (o) Rashabati contended that the 13 Meeteis were tortured and killed in captivity and asked the government to arrest the perpetrators belonging to Chin-Kuki community and punish them stringently.
Similarly, a sit-in protest was staged by meira paibi activists at Charangpat Mamang Leikai Maisnam Kangjeibung in Thoubal district on Friday against the brutal killing of the 13 Meetei people allegedly by Kuki militants.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the protest demonstration organised by Women Welfare Association, Charangpat Mamang Leikai, meira paibi activist Kangabam Maleiya lambasted the chief minister and his ministerial colleagues ministers for calling upon the people to maintain peace and calm when the state continuous to witness killings.
Their houses may be in peace, but the public are not in peace, she said, while adding that if normalcy had been restored as claimed by the government, then the frustrated youths of the state would not have taken up arms to protect Manipur.
During the protest, the agitators also held placards denouncing the killing.
