Imphal, December 08 2023:
Vice president of Janata Dal (United), Manipur unit Ahanthem Sanjoy has asked the Government to guide the youths who have been at the receiving end of atrocities meted out against Meeteis.
Sanjoy met the womenfolk of Sagang who have been protesting against the alleged proposal to deploy the Indian Army in the area since November 13 .
Sagang is situated in the adjacent area of Bishnupur and Churachandpur.
At the protest site, Sanjoy continued that the Government should take the emergence of several youths who want to avenge the killing of several Meeteis and destruction of properties by Kuki narco-terrorists very seriously.
Saying that thousands of Meeteis are ready to face the Kuki narco-terrorists who have been carrying out a violent campaign against the Meeteis, the JD (U) leader reiterated the need to guide these youth in the right direction.
Many precious lives have been lost in the course of the violent conflict which is more than seven months old, he said while condemning the murder of 13 Meeteis in captivity at Leithao village on December 4 .
He said that the BJP Government at the Centre and the State Government should take full responsibility for the massacre at Leithao.
Sanjoy paid his respect to the 13 bravehearts.
Claiming that Centre and the State Government are not taking the issue in Manipur seriously, Sanjoy asked if the double engine BJP Government is waiting for more people to die.
Why is Chief Minister N Biren Singh and the BJP Manipur Pradesh not mounting pressure on the Centre to end the conflict and also try to get an audience with the Prime Minister, he asked.
The violence will continue unless there is strong intervention from the Centre, Sanjoy said and asked if the Government wants the people to suffer further.
On the protest at Sagang, the JD (U) leader said that the State Government not paying any attention to the demand of the people of Sagang and surrounding villages is unfortunate.
These women are braving the cold weather to press their demand yet the Government doesn't even consider talking to the protesters.
There are no sincere leaders in the Government and that's the reason why people are suffering, Sanjoy added.
