Thoubal, November 16 2024:
Like a majority of people in the valley districts, the public of Thoubal also erupted in protests following the discovery of the dead bodies of six hostages abducted by Kuki militants on November 11 .
According to a reliable source, soon after news of the discovery of dead bodies spread like wildfire around 9 am, Thoubal Keithel was shut down with the Keithel vendors gathering outdoors and shops in the general vicinity remaining closed.
At Khangabok, aggrieved public burned tyres along National Highway 102 thereby blocking incoming traffic.
Speaking in connection with the eruption of spontaneous protests in Thoubal, Sanjenbam Amarjit, publicity secretary, Thoubal Apunba Lup (TAL), denounced the silence of the Manipur Government even after the killing of innocent women and children including a baby as the conflict rages on for more than 18 months.
He said that their lack of action has left the public in a state of confusion.
Sanjenbam Amarjit added that there are allegedly no instances of the Central and State Government speaking out against Kuki militants killing Meiteis, launching gunfire and abducting innocent civilians as per their whims.
The TAL publicity secretary added that the protests were launched in a show of solidarity with the victims.
Additionally, internally displaced folks at Wangjing Kodompokpi Sports Complex and Lamding Higher Secondary School Relief Camp donned black badges and staged sit-in protests and protest rally against the brutal killing of six civilians taken hostage by Kuki militants.
Many in the valley districts of Manipur also stepped out of their homes today to raise their voices against the inhumane killing of the abducted three women and three children, including a baby.
Condemning the barbaric killings, the protestors chanted slogans such as "We condemn violence on women and children", "We want peace", "We want justice", "We denounce the inaction of the Central and State Government" among others.
