Imphal, April 14 2024:
The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has stressed the need for the state government and the people of Manipur to realise that the present crisis engulfing Manipur is a proxy war waged by the government of India using the Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists as weapons as part of its geo-politics policy.
Addressing media persons at its Lamphelpat office on Friday, COCOMI coordinator Thokchom Somorendro said that though the war waged by the Chin- Kuki narco-terrorists against the Meeteis since May 3 last year has subsided to a certain extent, the attacks would escalate as soon as the Lok Sabha election is over.
COCOMI has been pointing out that the present war is not between Kukis and Meeteis a fact gradually dawning upon the public, he opined, adding that the government of India cannot use the people of Manipur as a puppet as part of its geo-political policy but should consider the people as citizens of India and protect their rights.
The present state government and the political parties should push the central government for immediate intervention to end the crisis in Manipur, he advised.
Chipping in, COCOMI spokesperson Khuraijam Athouba said that he had highlighted the crisis gripping the state since May 3 last year as per the wishes of the people at the 55th session of the Human Rights Council of the United Nations held from February 26 to April 5.Following his presentation at the UN, the earlier notion that the crisis in Manipur was started by the Meeteis as narrated by some sections of the people at certain international forums and the European Union has been clarified and truth made known.
He further informed that during the UN Human Rights Council session, he highlighted the fact that the government of India has been using the Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists illegally entering Manipur due to the porous Indo-Myanmar border, as a proxy tool and creating various issues in the state.
At least 70,000 indigenous people have been internally displaced during the present humanitarian crisis, he said.
Athouba also said that he clarified and made known at the international forum that general notion of the outside world that the present crisis in Manipur is a situation where the majority Hindus are carrying out atrocities against the minority Christians is totally false and baseless.
The crisis is not at all related with religion but a war waged by the Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists from across the border against the Meetei community.
He also stated that COCOMI will compile a report of the public issues in the state and made them known to the outside world through different international platforms including the International Court of Justice (ICJ), Forum Asia, AMNESTY International, etc., for international intervention to resolve the Manipur crisis.
COCOMI had also urged for sending a UN Rapporteur to Manipur for collecting a ground report, he revealed.
