BJP Govt accused of ruling by dividing communities
Source: Chronicle News Service

Imphal, August 05 2023: The double-engine BJP government is ruling quite successfully by pitting communities against each other, said Communist Party of India (CPI) national secretary Pallab Sengupta, satirically as CPI urged Kuki MLAs to participate in the upcoming session of Manipur Legislative Assembly on August 21.Addressing a press meet held at Irawat Bhawan, BT Road here on Saturday, Pallab said that since the conflict began, CPI leaders have been visiting the state and taking stock of the situation.

He stated that instead of continuing to discuss who and why, the focus should be on how to restore peace in the state.

He then accused the central and state BJP governments of pitting the once harmonious communities against each other to remain in power.

Mentioning that CPI was the first to demand for discussing the prevailing violence in the House, the national secretary said that peace would be possible once the two communities sit down and talk with each other.

In this regard, the Assembly is the legal institution for the communities to air their differences.

Thus, the Kuki MLAs should participate in the upcoming Session on August 21 and clearly state their likes and dislikes, he suggested.

Amid this, the state seems to be without a government as the PM and the CM remain in silent mode, again amid endless bloodsheds.

At this juncture, Manipur desperately needs an unbiased administration, in addition to effectively sealing the border between Myanmar and Manipur.

Only when both communities stop the violence, will peace be possible for which CPI will organise a month-long observance for restoration of peace in Manipur in addition to taking up all necessary measures in this regard including meeting leaders of both communities, he added.

Pallab then questioned why the PM delivered lectures in parliaments of other countries but is yet to address the unrest in Manipur in India's own parliament.

On top of this, the CM, despite demands for his resignation, continues to hold on to his seat while assuring to restore peace sans any notable action.

Thus, there is a need for a political resolution to fill in the gap between the communities, he asserted.

The national secretary, however, stated that the party does not support imposing President's Rule in Manipur.

Noting the deep distrust of Assam Rifles by one community and state forces by the other, Pallab opined that such notions are due to the biasness of the administration and as such, both the central and state governments should bring about a political will and solution, which could easily be brought about in a week.

However, time is being delayed repeatedly as the priority seems to be for 2024, he remarked.

Lamenting that many students are deprived of education and families of daily wagers on the verge of starvation, he urged for following in the footsteps of Jananeta Irabot and work together to solve the mistrust and restore peace and harmony between the communities.

The press meet was also attended by CPI Rajya Sabha MP P Santhosh Kumar and leaders of CPI Manipur State Council.
