Imphal, October 02 2024:
Shiv Sena Manipur State Unit president M Tombi has questioned whether both the central and state governments are subservient to the Kuki militants considering the inaction in rescuing civilians held hostage by the Kuki militants.
In a press meet held at the party's Babupara office, here, on Wednesday, Tombi said that while there is no intent to interfere in the geopolitics of the central and state governments, it needs to be ascertained if there is any negative impact in reviewing the policy - whether it is protecting the life and property of the people of Manipur or not.
Thus, both the central and state governments need to rectify the policy which has led to displacement of citizens and death of many others.
Condemning the statements made by the Army chief, who claimed that no drone bombing had occurred and denied any infiltration of Kuki militants into the state; Tombi also claimed that he had urged IGAR (South) and top officials to rescue the two abducted youths.
He questioned why the union home minister and the state government are unable to put an end to the conflict which has now reached the stage of terrorism with militants abducting civilians to bargain for the release of an individual in the custody of NIA.
Further questioning on what historical basis the blame has been put on the Meetei community , he stated that the Meetei did not set fire to the Kuki Memorial Gate.
Instead; the Meetei settlements in Kuki dominant areas have been razed to the ground, while Kuki homes in the state's capital are still intact, though unoccupied.
The issue at the time was preventing the influx of illegal Kuki immigrants from Myanmar, who set fire to houses and who engaged in cultivating poppies for drug trade.
Tombi then said that the people of Manipur are suffering untold miseries, even as education and future of young children remain uncertain.
The lives of the two abducted youths also remain uncertain, with one of the mothers threatening to take extreme step if her son fails to return home safely.
If the central and state governments fail to rescue the two youths, it is unlikely that the government would be able to handle the consequences, of the same, he said and hoped that the rescue efforts would be a success.
