3 days training programme for NCD programme managers underway

Imphal, May 25 2018: State Mission Director, NHM Manipur, IAS N Bandana Devi stressed on the importance of making Manipur an NCD-free state by stating that the 3 days training programme will empower the programme managers to plan for better & effective implementation and monitoring regarding cancer, diabetes, hypertension screening and treatment at population level for all people above 30 years of age.

She was speaking as Chief Guest at the inaugural function of the 3 - days training programme which began yesterday for NCD programme managers on National Programme for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Diseases and Stroke(NPCDCS) at Institute of Cooperative Management(ICM), Lamphelpat.

Yesterday's inaugural function was attended by Dr.K Rajo, Director Health Services, Govt.of Manipur as the President; Dr.Chinmoyee Das, DADG, Dte, GHS, MoHFW, Govt.of India and Dr.L Ashananda Singh, Regional Director, MoHFW as the Guests of Honour.

It was organised by the Directorate of Health Services, Manipur in collaboration with the State Health Society, Manipur.

Briefing the session, N Bandana Devi said that NPCDCS programmes are launched in the state in 2015 in 9 Districts of Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Churachandpur, Bishnupur, Chandel, Senapati, Ukhrul & Tamenglong which is now expanded to the seven new districts since 2017 December.

Highlighting on the significance of IEC activities in spreading awareness about the risk of obesity, smoking, sedentary life and alcohol in causing non-communicable disesases like hypertension, diabetes mellitus and cancer, she explained that the district NCD clinic are having special clinic for treating them by giving proper counselling, physiotherapy, free medicine & laboratory test.

She also updated the trainees by stating that until March 2017,134364 persons have been screened for NCD out of which 17958 are suffering from diabetes while 23613 and 1101 are cases of hypertension and heart diseases respectively.

398 cancer patients and 151 stroke suffering persons are also enrolled in the programme, she also stated.

"The ASHA will be doing household visit to every home and use a checklist for NCD and further refer to ANM of PHSC with linkage to PHC", she said.

Dr.K Rajo pointed out that the main objective of today's programme is to give promotion on the management of NPCDCS and proper capacity building and training exercise are important to achieve the set target.

Dr.Chinmoyee Das said that the NCD programme is gaining momentum and the 3 roles of a programme manager are planning, implementation and monitoring as we have limited resources and budget.

Dr.Das; Prof.AK Brogen, HOD Community Medicine,RIMS; Dr.Pradeep Joshi, National Professional Officer, WHO and Dr.Y Premchand, State Nodal Officer, NPDCDCS are faculties of the training programme.

DNO of NCD, Eperidermologies, APMs of NCD of the 17 districts of Manipur took part in the programme.
