Ukhrul, October 14 2023:
A joint team of Tangkhul Eastern Students Association and Tangkhul Southern Students Association, Kamjong conducted a surprise inspection to take stock of ongoing infrastructure development works at the District Headquarters.
The surprise inspection was carried out as students of Kamjong district were rattled by the lackadaisical attitude of the State Government in all spheres of development and departmental staff shortage.
It has been pointed out that although CHC Kamjong was upgraded to District Hospital in 2017, it continues to function as an eight bedded hospital without any major changes in hospital infrastructure.

In this connection, Wungnaothan Chithung, president of Zingsho Katamnao Long (ZKL) Kamjong has said that hardly any basic medical amenities are available at the hospital.
Despite seven years since its upgradation, the Kamjong district hospital still has no CMO office and staff quarters.
It is reportedly manned by two medical officers against 10 sanctioned posts while the ultrasound machine installed in 2021 is still non-functional.
Lab technicians for ultrasound and X- ray machines have not been posted till date and the hospital is functioning without an oxygen plant, he said.
The joint team also inspected the construction site of a 50-bedded girls hostel which had been constructed at the cost of Rs 2.7 crore but had been abandoned well before its completion.
The team also highlighted the staff shortage at Kamjong Higher Secondary School due to lack of sanctioned posts for lecturers.
Ngamreiphy Zimik, secretary of ZKL shared that during his maiden visit to Kamjong in 2020, Chief Minister N Biren Singh had announced that under-construction infrastructure works would be completed within two years.
Despite this assurance, hardly any construction work has been completed or nearing completion.
The public are anxiously waiting for the Chief Minister to translate his words into action and bring development in Kamjong district, he said.
The joint team also visited the Kamjong DC Office to discuss the matter, however DC Rangnamei Rang Peter was not available.
The student union has urged the concerned work agencies/contractors to expedite the construction works and further appealed to the State Government to release the pending bills for early completion of works.
