Tribal Film Fest kicks off

As part of Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh, the four-day Tribal Frames Manipur : National Tribal Film Festival cum State Level Tribal Carnival kicked off at City Convention Centre, Imphal today.
The event was jointly organised by the Department of Tribal Affairs and Hills, Tribal Research Institute and Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS) under the supervision of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
Chief Secretary Dr Puneet Kumar Goel officially launched the festival where film screenings, cultural showcases, exotic cuisine, music, fashion show and photo display is on the menu.
Aside from film screenings and other events lined up at the auditorium of City Convention Centre and MSFDS, the State Level Tribal Carnival will be held at Senapati tomorrow.
Speaking as the chief guest, Dr Puneet Kumar Goel said the festival is being held at the State level to remember the bravery and indomitable spirit of tribal freedom fighters and honour their contribution to Nationbuilding.
The Tribal Film Festival will provide a platform to tribal filmmakers to show their creativity and storytelling skills and offer a space to indigenous people to hold discussions on ways to safeguard their traditions, customs and identity.
Commending the fact that 23 films from 9 States, including the North East, will be screened at the festival, he expressed confidence that it will give people a chance to explore tribal people's wisdom, resilience and their way of life connected with nature as well as promote traditions, customs and youth empowerment through the medium of films.
At the State Level Tribal Carnival, tribal art, music, dance and crafts will be showcased offering a valuable opportunity for cultural exchange.
"I believe the festival will bring peace, harmonious coexistence, collective development and help reach the goal of Viksit Bharat", said the Chief Secretary.
At the event, Dr Puneet Kumar Goel lit the ceremonial candle with the fire extracted by Pongringjang United Organization, Noney using their indigenous technique of "meiba chingba" .
Noted artist Guru AS Rawang presented Tangkhul folk songs at the inaugural event where Poumai Naga folk songs also delighted the audience.
Other notable dignitaries include Anurag Bajpai, Additional Chief Secretary; T Pamei, Commissioner, Horticulture and Soil Conservation; Hungyo Worshang, Secretary, Tourism and IPR; Padmashree Rewben Mashangva; Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee Gangmei Aluna Kabuini and Sunzu Bachaspatimayum, secretary, MSFDS who attended the event as presidium members.
On the first day of the festival, Mizo film "Mi: Bo" was screened at MSFDS.
Meanwhile, at City Convention Centre, traditional songs and dances and live music performances marked the beginning of Tribal Frames Manipur: National Tribal Film Festival cum State Level Tribal Carnival.
