Tamei, July 12: An elephant was washed down and deposited at Dikiuram village on the bank of Barak river under Tamei sub-division in Tamenglong district yesterday by the flooding Barak river, according to reports received by Newmai News Network.

The reports said that the elephant managed to survive.

However, the reports did not mention the whereabouts of the elephant after it was deposited at the river bank.

Reports said that the iron bridge had been washed away by the flood water.

The bridge is the connecting line to Nagaland and also to some villages within the state.

The reports said that due to heavy uninterrupted torrential rain, Tamei Sub-Divisional Hqs remain totally cut off from the state capital from all directions for the fifth day today.

Numerous landslides have taken place between T.Waichong, Gelnel, Gelbung and at Govajang.

The road communication between these villages are also totally cut off with rivers changing its course on the IT road causing a lot of damage to the already dilapidated road.

Landslides have taken place at Taloulong, Lamlaba with huge rocks blocking the roads.

Tamei-Konphung-Tenning road has also been cut off with more than 36 landslides blocking vehicular traffic.

Further on the July 10 at about 4 PM the Barak bridge connecting Katang village of Tousem Sub-Division and Dikiuram of Tamei Sub-Division has been totally washed away causing a lot of hardships to the villagers.

The Barak bridge is also an important bridge as it is the lifeline between villagers of Manipur and Nagaland being situated at the border of these two states.

Villagers of far-flung areas who cross the Barak river are finding it impossible to come to Tamei.

Students of farflung villages of Kawalong area are finding it tough to rejoin their schools/colleges after their vacations.

Several houses and paddy-fields of Khunphung, Dikiuram, Katang and Lenglong village remain submerged underwater since on July 10.
