With the collection of blood samples from three patients at Shija Hospital today, the State Health authorities is leaving no stone unturned to prevent the spread of the mysterious disease suspected to be Japanese Encephalitis which has claimed some lives in the last few days.
Following instructions given by the Health Commissioner, a team of the State health officials comprising of Dr Biren (State Epidemiologist), Dr RK Laksana (Dist Epidemiologist, dist nodal officer NSPCD) among others collected blood samples from three patients at Shija Hospitals where a total number of five patients are undergoing treatment, said Dr Biren.
The blood sample would be sent to the National Institute of Communicable Disease (NICD) New Delhi for examination, he said adding that explicit action would be taken up to combat the disease as and when the results are known.
Meanwhile, District Malaria Officer Dr Dhaballo and his team members rushed to Bishnupur area to conduct spot study pertaining to the recent death of five persons in the area, he said.
Yesterday an emergency meeting was convened with Health Commissioner AR Khan, Dr Biren, Dr Dhaballo and Dr Laksana in view of the health threat owing to the strange epidemic.
Members at the meeting resolved to do fogging at Bishnupur area after making a spot study and conduct health awareness programme amongst the public.
Dr Biren also stated that every possible effort would be extended to combat any epidemic.
It is pertinent to note that three out of eight patients admitted to Shija Hospital died of suspected JE.
