A devastating landslide of about 300 metres on the NH-39 at Mao Bazar has completely cut off Manipur from the rest of the country.
In a statement Mao Council president K Adahrii said that the landslide which occurred in the main residential area on the midnight of July 10, has affected around 60 families and a Don Bosco School while properties like building, homestead, paddy fields worth crores of rupees have been destroyed.
It appealed to the State Government, the security forces, the District Administration, as well as all NGOs to extend immediate humanitarian relief to the affected families and students.
Taking strong exception to the Government callous attitude, the Mao Students Union regrets that the District Administration officials and State Government have not come up with any help to the needy and landslide affected people of Mao.
It said that the area continues to sink day and night and the residents could gather only a handful of their materials as the sinking began to grim.
