Imphal, July 07 2025:
Students stormed the office of the Vice Chancellor of Manipur University after male teachers allegedly body searched female candidates appearing in the BEd second semester examination.
The alleged incident happened on July 4 at the Department of Teachers Education when students were appearing for the BEd second semester examination.
Students gathered in front of the VC office today claimed that two faculty members of the Department of Computer Science along with one female faculty of Life Science Department, who were part of a flying squad, without taking consent allegedly started frisking students inside the exam hall.
While there were female officials present inside the examination hall, the two male members of the flying scout allegedly conducted searches by putting their hands inside the pockets of the female students.
They allegedly searched pockets on the outside and inside the shirts of many female students, said the students.
The students further alleged that the male officials conducted body searches repeatedly on some female students.
"It was a clear case of physical, molestation and sexual assault.
The students were harassed physically and mentally by the male officials.
A complaint was filed on the day of the incident through the student union.
But no action has been taken against the male officials till today," said a student.
The teachers/officials involved in the incident must be terminated or suspended for at least 2 years.
The students will boycott the remainder of the examinations until appropriate action is taken up, said the students.
Reportedly, students didn't sit in the examination today.
Meanwhile, Manipur University's Dean of Student Welfare, Prof Ch Ibohal said a complaint, signed by 17 female students, was submitted to him through the MUSU and the Students' Grievance and Redressal Committee has been informed of the incident.
The committee will record statements of the 17 students today and is expected to come to a decision soon, he added.
