Imphal, February 03 2023:
If there is no rainfall, the Imphal River will have no water for public consumption.
This was stated by PHE Minister L Susindro on the floor of the State Assembly today in response to a query raised by MLA K Ranjit during the question hour.
Susindro said that the Imphal River will not be able to supply water to the public in Imphal and greater Imphal areas after one month if there is no rainfall in the meantime.
Likewise, the Iril River will not be able to supply water to public after three months, he said.
Already 19 water supply schemes under PHED have stopped supplying water to the public as raw water is no longer available, Susindro said.
The water supply schemes which have ceased operation are S Sehken Water Supply Scheme, Saikot Water Treatment Plant, Lamlai Water Treatment Plant, Sabungkhok Water Supply Scheme, Seijang Water Supply Scheme, Lambal Water Supply Scheme, Sekmai Water Supply Scheme, Thawai (T) Water Supply Scheme, Phungyar Headquarters Water Supply Scheme, Tuol- bung Water Supply Scheme, Khoken Water Supply Scheme, Upper Khar-khuplien Water Supply Scheme, Thingpan Water Supply Scheme, Muol- khangthol Water Supply Scheme, Wairangba-I WWS, Kaikao WWS, Pumram WWS, Ningthem-pukhri Water Treatment Plant and Canchipur Water Treatment Plant.

Replying to a query raised by MLA Okram Surjakumar, Chief Minister N Biren said that 57 roads have been identified in Imphal and greater Imphal areas for expansion in view of the aggravating traffic congestion on these roads.
Altogether 30 roads in Imphal East and 27 in Imphal East have been identified for expansion.
Survey has been done for all the 30 roads in Imphal East while survey has been completed by 90 per cent in Imphal West, Biren said.
After these 57 roads are expanded, some other roads would also be expanded.
The Government would receive necessary funds from ADB and AIDB.
As for properties affected by road expansion, the State Government too would pay compensation, the Chief Minister said.
Replying to another query raised by MLA Th Lokeshwor, Biren said that the suspension order of the Chief Engineer of Minor Irrigation Department was revoked under Rule 10(5)(C) of CCS (CCA) Rules 1965 .
He said that the suspension order was revoked so that befitting action can be taken up against all erring officials of the department as assured during the previous Assembly sitting.
