Nyay Yatra flag off : Govt to study situation

Chief Minister N Biren has said that the Government will decide whether to give permission to flag off Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi from Imphal after taking due reports from the security agencies on the law and order situation in Manipur.
To a query, the Chief Minister stated that though Kuki militants frequently attack State and Central forces at Moreh it is the primary duty of the Government to protect lives and properties of the people.
On delisting Kuki-Zo from ST list, the Chief Minister said that a re-exami- nation is needed to figure out how Kuki-Zo were enlisted in the ST list in the first place.
He also said that the Government will have discussion with representatives of all the communities residing in Manipur and take a resolution on the matter before sending any recommendation to the Centre.
Saying that Assam Rifles, BSF and State forces have been putting in maximum efforts to bring the situation at Moreh under control, the Chief Minister continued that Kuki militants attacked security forces yesterday too.
He added that the security forces have started carrying out combing operations at vulnerable areas to stop the militants' attack.
Further stating that the Indian Government sees the violence in Manipur as a violent campaign against the country, N Biren asked the people to not panic and have faith in the Government.
The Chief Minister said this while speaking at the 190th death anniversary of Maharaj Gambhir Singh at Canchipur, N Biren continued that the law and order in Manipur is still critical so the Government is discussing whether to allow flagging off the second version of Bharat Jodo Yatra from Imphal.
