NCTE launches ITEP, extends B.Ed course period

In a move aimed at enhancing the skills and competence of educators, National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has launched the Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) under the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and extended the duration of the Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) programme to four years.
Effective from the academic session 2023-24, NCTE has extended the duration of B.Ed programme from two years to four years.
Additionally, the Council has discontinued the approval of two-year BEd.
programmes.
This strategic shift aligns with the objectives outlined in the'NEP 2020, emphasising a more comprehensive and integrated approach to teacher education, stated a circular issued by the Rehabilitation Council of India, which is under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
Furthermore, NCTE has announced its decision to cease granting new approvals for institutions running two-year B.Ed (Special Education) programmes starting from the academic session 2024-25.This decision reflects the Council's commitment to aligning teacher education programmes with the evolving educational landscape and the aspirations of NEP 2020.In response to these changes, the Council is actively developing a new training programme that adheres to the principles and guidelines laid out in the NEP 2020.In light of these developments, all institutions, colleges, and universities aspiring to offer the Integrated B.Ed Special Education programme with a four-year duration, in line with the ITEP of NCTE, are encouraged to apply afresh for the upcoming academic session.
The application process will be facilitated through an online portal, which will be opened in due course.
