Imphal, January 09 2024:
Setting a number of conditions, the Arambai Tenggol has resolved to stay away from the Lok Sabha polls if the election is held without fulfilling these conditions.
According to a press release issued by the Arambai Tenggol Control Room Operator, it is not the right time to hold elections considering the suffering and woes of the people who have lost their near and dear ones and whose houses had been burnt down.
Before the Lok Sabha election is held in Manipur, the National Register of Citizens should be updated first with respect to Manipur, border fencing should be completed and BSF should be put in charge of guarding the Indo(Manipur)-Myanmar border.
The Government should abrogate the 'unreasonable' Suspension of Operation (SoO) and bring a solution to the protracted crisis before any election is held.
"If the Lok Sabha election is held without addressing these issues, the Arambai Tenggol would stay away from the election but we would not boycott the election", it said.
The decision to stay away from the election should not be construed as being anti-constitutional, it said.
"We are only saying that it is not the right time to hold elections in Manipur", it added.
