Ukhrul, January 09 2024:
Sub-Contractors' Association for NH-202 Yaingangpokpi-Finch Corner has closed down the office of M/S Meitram Construction Pvt Ltd located at TM Kasom village in Ukhrul district over the latter's failure to clear long-pending bills worth Rs 5 crore.
Association's convener Mingyao Ruivanao revealed to the media on Tuesday that it has shut down the Meitram office on January 6, as the company has failed to release the pending bills.
He said that the Association had no other choice but to take the drastic step after repeated appeals and assurances from the company had proven futile.
"We have made it clear that we will not allow the office to reopen and function until our long-standing demands are met," Ruivah said.
It is learnt that the pending bills had accumulated since 2020 .
The construction of the NH-202 Yaingangpok-pi-Finch Corner Road has been a contentious topic in the state for quite some time.
The project was officially sanctioned in 2020 with the objective of enhancing connectivity and transportation in the area.
This was to be achieved by widening and upgrading the existing road to a 2-lane stretch with an earthen shoulder, covering a total distance of 30.970 km along NH-202.Sadly, the project has continued to drag on in the face of multiple obstacles and setbacks.
