Imphal, October 02 2024:
The Women Wing of Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has urged for re leasing within two days the two youths held hostage by Kuki militants, and warned of launching intense democratic agitations in case of failing to do so.
Addressing the media at COCOMI's Lamphelpat office, here, on Wednesday, Wing's assistant coordinator RK Tharaksana pointed out that the conflict lingering for around 17 months has seen Kuki militants using bombs and rockets to target civilians, which is an act of terrorism.
Regretting alleged indifferent attitude of the chief minister, security advisor and DGP to suffering of the people, she noted that in-spite of the Thoubal JAC launching movement for release of the two youths, the state government is yet to take any concrete action other than stating continuously that the centre is being informed about the matter.
It is the government s duty to protect and save lives' of its citizens at all costs, she stated and urged for the safe rescue of the two abducted youths and handing them over to the mothers within two days.
Failure to do so would be like pouring oil into the fire, she warned.
Meanwhile, All Manipur Teli Association (AMTA) has condemned the abduction of three youths on September 27 while on their way to attend the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) GD recruitment test at New Keithelmanbi.
Though one of the youths has been released, uncertainty over safety and well-being of the remaining two still in captivity is deeply concerning, said the AMTA in release.
"We earnestly appeal to the individuals responsible for this abduction to release the two youths unharmed, allowing them to return to their families.
Such acts are deeply uncalled for and go against the spirit of peace and unity that our society strives to uphold.
We also urge the state and central governments to take all necessary measures to ensure the safe and swift release of the two youths.
It is imperative that the authorities work diligently to bring an end to such incidents, which undermine the peace and progress of Manipur," it said.
The release further stated that in these trying times, the Association stands in solidarity with the families of the victims and extends support to all efforts aimed at securing the safe return of their loved ones.
