MEELAL belittles ANBA accusations

Rebutting the allegation levelled by All Naga Business Association (ANBA), Imphal as published in some local dailies on Sunday, Meetei Erol Eyek Loinasillol Apunba Lup (MEELAL) termed the charges malicious, untimely and an attempt to portray the Lup in poor light.
In a release, MEELAL hill affair secretary Gaising Panmei stated that in continuation of its campaign for promotion of Meetei Mayek, it has been requesting for inclusion of Meetei Mayek on top of public banners, hoardings and advertisement signboards.
As a part of the initiative on Saturday, its members came across some shops at Khuman Lampak not having the Meetei Mayek on the signboards and advised those manning the shops to include Meetei Mayek only to be told that the owners were not present and provided phone numbers for contact.
On calling the said numbers, the owners mutually agreed to meet with them at MEELAL office, it clarified.
MEELAL also termed as regrettable that at a time when talks were to be held to resolve the issue, ANBA, Imphal issued a statement disparaging the Lup.
According to secretary Gaising then chief minister Yangmaso Shaiza's effort helped Meetei Mayek, the state's only script, achieve the status of the script presently being taught till the postgraduate level apart from every banners of programmes organised in the state by the government or by companies from outside the state carrying Meetei Mayek prominently.
MEELAL emphasised that it will continue its campaign till all communities of the state understand its importance and start using it.
Appealing all including ANBA to support the campaign, the organisation recalled that in 2005 when the agitation for Meetei Mayek was launched around 500 persons including DESAM members and people from all communities were imprisoned, after which, the script was granted recognition and taught in schools in 2006 .
MEELAL further stressed that all must support each other instead of slinging mud at one another.
