Imphal, October 27 2024:
The Zeme community has taken a firm stand to protect and safeguard all Zeme ancestral lands and resources at all costs, regardless of administrative boundaries in Assam, Manipur, and Nagaland.
This decision was made on Thursday in a meeting held at Makuilongdi village, Senapati district.
It was the second executive meeting of the Zeme Council North East India (Assam, Manipur, Nagaland).
According to the Council, the decision is the need of the hour amid widespreaid land issues, emphasising that it is time for all Zemes to unite and take a concrete stand to protect their most valued treasure.
ZCNEI president Isamrangbe Pame, in his address, stated that the Zeme community has been blessed with a vast and fertile land, rich in resources, passed down from their forefathers since time immemorial.
He highlighted that it is now the duty of young people to protect and make this land more resourceful and productive.
Alongside the resolution for land protection, ZCNEI also resolved to celebrate a common Zeme festival to promote unity and shared heritage, preserve Zeme literature, and honour the community's history and culture.
Additionally, they agreed to establish a strong, unified Zeme customary law to cater to the collective interests of the Zeme community.
The event was attended by Zeme Naga Council president Apung Daime, Zeme Council Nagaland president A Earnest, and Zeme Council Assam president Namke Newme, along with leaders from their respective federating units.
During the meeting, ZCNEI president Isamrangbe released a collection of folk songs titled Paupaileu.
A one-minute silence was observed to honour past leaders, and four newly appointed executive members were inducted into the ZCNEI team.
