Imphal, February 25 2023:
Maintaining that the person who has been arrested by Delhi police along with 50 kg of opium is not related with him in anyway whatsoever, minister L Susindro has made it clear that anyone involved in drug case, be it family or friends, will not be spared under any circumstances and befitting actions would be taken up as they are against the "War on Drugs" mission and enemies of the state.
Talking to media persons at his Khurai Sajor Leikai residence on Saturday, minister L Susindro acknowledged that a post has been uploaded on social media under the name of one Phajaton Chanu in connection with the arrest of one Loyangamba along with drugs by Delhi police and connecting the person with him.
The content of the post, which has gone viral, is baseless and it is an attempt to tarnish his image and defame his political career, Susindro claimed.
He further informed that a first information report (FIR) has been lodged at the cyber-crime police station with receipt number 275.While stating that account name Phajaton Chanu could not be traced, Susindro, who represents Khurai assembly constituency, disclosed that though Loyangamba is his step-brother their relationships had soured and as such, he (Loyangamba) not connected with his family in any way whatsoever since they have not kept in touch for the last many years and have gone their own separate ways.
"There is no question of taking side with the arrested person by the state government and any person from the state found involved in drug trades would not be spared but be given befitting punishment according to the law of the land".
Mention may be made that the social media post by Phajaton Chanu went viral amid the opposition Congress on Thursday demanding handing over of the case of Delhi police arresting two drug smugglers from Manipur and Punjab along with 50 kg opium valued at Rs 10 crore to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for finding early justice.
Briefing the media, MPCC vice president Hareshwar Goswami praised the Delhi Police Special Cell for recovering the opium from the secret cavities of a car near Sarita Vihar on Monday.
With reference to arrest of Ranbir Singh from Punjab and Loyangamba Itocha from Imphal in connection with seizure of the opium consignment at the national capital, Goswami expressed suspicion that high-profile politicians and police officers from Manipur could be involved in the smuggling.
He questioned how the Manipur based drug smuggler was able to transport the illegal item despite the state government's efforts to combat drug trafficking and the heavy police and security checkpoints along the highways in Manipur.
He insisted that the case be handed over to the CBI as soon as possible, while categorically stating that his party has no faith in any other investigating agency in the country.
