Kakching, October 27 2024:
In response to the government's alleged indifference to repeated appeals for repairing the long-neglected road from Kakching Lamkhai to Sugnu, Lamkhai to Sugnu Road (State Highway) Development and Demand Committee (LSR-DDC) has called for a 48-hour bandh along the road stretch, from 6 am of November 11.According to reports, the departments concerned provided a written assurance on August 19 to repair the road within 10 days.
However, even after over two months, no action has been taken.
As a result, a public meeting held on Saturday decided to block the road for 48 hours.
The meeting, held at BBC community hall, Wangjing Khunou, was attended by LSR-DDC advisors Urikhinbam Kunjo, Ahongshangbam Dhiren, Th Yaima, president Khaidem Ratan Meetei, and auditor general Khumukcham Mema.
The meeting also acknowledged the efforts of authority concerned in mending the potholes and making minor improvements.
However, the majority of the road remains in a deplorable condition, even after two months of the government's written assurance.
As condition of the road has worsened, the LSR-DDC, with the support of the public, has decided to close the road until substantial repair work begins starting with a 48-hour blockade from 6 am on November 11, the report added.
Meanwhile, the proposed road block agitation on the Kakching Lamkhai to Wabagai Lamkhai stretch, passing through Kakching Lamkhai to Kakching Bazar along NH-137 (A), has been suspended following the commencement of repair work.
All Kakching Clubs' Coordinating Committee (AK-CCC), a coalition of 18 clubs of Kakching, had previously warned of launching intense agitation, including blocking the road from October 28 if repairs were not initiated by October 27 .
However, with repair work now underway, the AKCCC has lifted for some time, according to its secretary, Mayanglambam Maniyaima.
