Lions Club observes UN Day 2023

Lions Club of Imphal observed the United Nations Day 2023 at the Lions Service Centre, Sangaiprou, along with organising a debating competition on Tuesday.
Club member Th Imomacha spoke on 'Relationship between the United Nations and Lions International' on the occasion, and recalled the history of Lions International which was floated after the end of World War 2 .
The United Nations has been supporting the activities of the club, which is mainly focussing on important issues like restoration/improve-ment of eye sight, diabetes, environment, hunger, and childhood cancer.
As a mark of recognition granted to the initiatives of Lions Club, UN is observing Lions Day at United Nations every year on March 3 and this year, the day was observed under the theme 'Hunger, Nutrition & Wellness', he said.
IPDG Dr W Gopimohan also released the quarterly bulletin of the club on the occasion.
Later, the 31st Students' Debating Competition was organised on the topic "In the 21st Century, United Nations has failed to resolve conflicts among nations" with professor S Lokendrajit, retired dean of Manipur University, School of Humanities as the speaker.
Altogether, 32 students participated in the competition.
Maria Montessori School won the running trophy of team champion while Sainik School bagged the runners up title.
In the individual category, Bembox Salam of DM College of Arts, Deeptendu Mutum of Sainik School and Laimayum Promila of Maria Montessori School won the top three positions respectively.
Two consolation winners were also selected.
Later, Lions logo printed umbrellas were distributed to commuters at Kwakeithel market as part of the club's 'One Multiple, One Activity' project.
