Sit-ins protest murder of driver Sahir

Reacting against the assault and killing of driver Sangomsumpham Sahir alias Sana, the JAC formed in connection with the incident on Tuesday organised sit-in protests at Kshetri Mayai Leikai, Kshetri Awang Leikai, Kshetri Bengoon, Hatta, Lilong, Khu-rai, Sora and Kwakta.
A meira paibi protestor named Baby remembered Sahir as a person who lived from hand to mouth.
He was brutally assaulted by a mob at Takhel, which is his neighbouring village, succumbed to the injuries.
While condemning the silent attitude of the state government on assault and murder of Sahir, she said that the case should be handed over to the NIA and arrest perpetrators of the heinous crime.
Intense form of agitations along with other CSOs, student bodies and the public will be launched until the authorities produce the culprits and deliver justice, she declared.
JAC spokesperson Haji Najimudin, who was also present during the protest, regretted that Lamlai SP is yet to register a suo motu case and urged people of Takhel to help in tracing the culprits involved in the act.
Meanwhile, Manipur Muslim Welfare Organisation (MMWO) strongly condemned the killing of Sangomsumpham Shahir alias Sana, who succumbed to injuries suffered in a mob lynching incident on October 19.In a release, MMWO president Boboi Korimayum demanded arrest of all those involved in mob thrashing of Shahir and Md Abir.
Stating that Shahir succumbed to injuries after treat ment for four days, he further urged the people of Sanjenbam Takhel to help in finding the culprits.
He further appealed to the state government as well as the valley and hill people not to look down upon Meetei Pangal as minority.
Urging the government to stop victimizing Meetei Pangal, Boboi called for taking actions against those elements who are trying disrupt peace in the society.
He pointed out that Meetei Pangals have been playing vital roles in restoring peace in the state.
