Scribes sensitised on child safety, human trafficking

MUKTI Ukhrul conducted a Journalists' Sensitisation Programme on the issue of Child Safety and Human Trafficking at King Chilli Restaurant, Phungreitang in Ukhrul Town on Tuesday.
The programme was aimed to create awareness and sensitivity among the members of Ukhrul District Working Journalists' Association (UDWJA), while highlighting the roles of the journalists regarding issues related to child safety and protection from human trafficking.
In his address, MUKTI Ukhrul project officer Wungreiso Shangh elaborated on various aspects related to the journalists' roles in child safety and human trafficking.
He discussed in length the children in conflict with law and children in need of care and protection.
He also raised awareness on the issue of sexual abuse and emphasized on media's role in helping to spread the message to tackle the issue, while urging the participating journalists to use their power of communication to help create an environment where children can live without any fear.
"With this programme, MUKTI Ukhrul aims to encourage and Sensitise the journalists for playing an active role in combating the issue of child protection and human trafficking", Shangh said, adding that the news disseminated by the media can play a crucial role in carrying out campaigns and strategies to fight the issue.
The programme was attended by members of UD-WJA, who expressed their gratitude for the education programme and expressed their commitment to help in spreading the message to create a safe and secure environment for children.
They promised to create and produce materials that would show the harsh realities of human trafficking and its impact and provide solutions to the issue.
The MUKTI Project is being implemented in partnership with ECPAT Luxembourg in the area of sexual abuse and human trafficking involving children below 18 years of age.
