Imphal, October 15 2026:
Families displaced from Dolaithabi have urged the Government to take up necessary steps so that they can go back to their homes within the month of October.
All the 37 houses of Dolaithabi, Imphal East were razed by Kukis in the course of the widespread violence which erupted on May 3, 2023 .
Since then, the families have been taking refuge in the relief camps opened at Sajiwa and Sawombung.
Dolaithabi Development Committee secretary RK Prem said that 160 people of Dolaithabi have been taking refuge at the Sajiwa relief camp and Sawombung relief camp since May, 2023 .
For re-construction of houses, the State Government started transferring money to the accounts of the displaced families from May 2024 .
Even though the Government promised Rs 5 lakh for a pucca house, only Rs 2.50 lakh has been transferred to the family's account so far.
There were 24 semi-pucca houses and the Government promised Rs 3.50 lakh each for re-construction of these houses but only half of the promised amount has reached the displaced families' accounts.
Likewise, only half of Rs 2.50 lakh promised by the Government for each of the 12 kutcha houses has reached the affected families' accounts, Prem said.
For all the 37 houses destroyed by Kuki militants, the Government has transferred only 50 per cent of the total amount it promised for their re-construction, he said.
Prem urged the Government to release the remaining 50 per cent within one week.
Out of the total 37 houses, re-construction of 28 houses started in June this year.
The other nine houses were left out in view of their proximity to the northern hills, he said.
Prem said that re-construction of the 28 houses has now been completed by 80 per cent.
He urged the Government to release the remaining 50 per cent of the financial aid within a week so that they can resettle at their village before the end of October.
Prem said that the then Governor assured a financial assistance of Rs one lakh to each of the 37 families in 2023 to buy household articles.
The families were given Rs 25,000 in the first instalment, followed by Rs 20,000 in the second instalment.
As such, the 37 families have received Rs 45,000 each while Rs 55,000 remains out of their reach.
The Dolaithabi Development Committee urged the Government to release the remaining Rs 55,000 at the earliest.
He also urged the Government to shift the 133rd Bn CRPF presently stationed at Dolaithabi Barrage to the hills located close to Dolaithabi village.
He further appealed to the Government to station State forces too at the village.
