RIMS eyes 20-bedded paediatric ICU unit

A 20-bedded paediatric Intensive Care Unit (ICU) will be opened soon with hectic efforts made to implement the same next month, stated Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal director professor G Sunil Kumar Sharma.
Professor Sunil inaugurated a 33/11KV power sub-station at RIMS on Friday in presence medical superintendent professor N Sanjib Singh and Manipur State Power Company Limited managing director Ng Subhachandra Singh.
Addressing gathering, professor G Sunil said RIMS achieved another milestone with the inauguration of a state-of-the-art SITC of 2X5 MVA, 33/11 KV sub-station within its campus.
The newly commissioned 33/11 KV sub-station will ensure uninterrupted power supply for the hospital, medical college and associated facilities of RIMS.

With modern transformers, automated controls and high-capacity breakers, the new sub-station will optimise distribution, enhance energy efficiency and support advanced medical equipment.
This upgrade will improve patient care while reducing reliance on alternative power, he said.
Emphasising the importance of a reliable power supply in healthcare institutions of RIMS' stature, the director said commissioning of the new power sub-station marks a significant step in RIMS hospital's commitment to providing world-class healthcare facilities.
Uninterrupted power supply is vital for critical care units, operation theatres and research laboratories, he said and expressed hope that the new facility will ensure smooth functioning of the hospital.
He also thanked Manipur State Power Company Limited for installing a state-of-the-art power sub-station in RIMS while recalling problems faced in running the hospital due to erratic power supply some 15 years back.
According to professor G Sunil, RIMS continues to purchase water from private suppliers since its inception due to lack of own water reservoir.
However, a self-sustainable water reservoir under Jal Shakti Scheme is being planned and water problem at RIMS will be eased once this scheme is implemented, he said and appealed to relevant authority to take up necessary steps.
In his address, Manipur State Power Company Limited managing director Ng Subhachandra said that the 33/11 KV sub-station installed at RIMS hospital is a testament to company's commitment to strengthen power infrastructure across the state.
He expressed hope that the new facility will ensure a stable and efficient power supply for RIMS.
The event was also attended by officials from power department, engineers of both civil and electrical of RIMS and contractors involved in the project.

HODs, chief account officer cum financial advisor, nursing officials and staff of RIMS also attended the event, which concluded with a site inspection of the facility and a demonstration of its operational features by technical experts.
