CPI-MSC to protest at Jantar Mantar

Imphal, June 06 2023: Communist Party of India (CPI) Manipur State Council held an executive meeting on Tuesday and has decided to apprise the Prime Minister, chief ministers of various states and Member of Parliaments (MPs) on the prevailing situation in Mani-pur, in addition to staging a protest at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi soon.

In a press meet held at CPI office in Irawat Bhawan here, party's state secretary L Thoiren said that the violence escalated after the separate administration demand by the 10 Kuki MLAs.

Despite being a political issue, the central and the state governments are yet to take up any concrete action but rather trying to paint the violence as an ethnic con-flict between Kuki and Meetei communities.

As such, both governments should take re-sponsibility for the violence that has occurred.

Stating that union home minister Amit Shah had failed to deliver the assurances he gave on May 29 including withdrawal of the blockade and halt gunfights, Thoiren said that the home minister should resign from his post in this context.

He further rued the silence of Minister of State of External Affairs Dr Ranjan with regard to the violence.

He continued that instead of holding an Assembly ses-sion to come up with a po-litical solution, the repre-sentatives are slinging mud at each other.

The violence is being further fuelled by drug kingpins with money and weapons.

Thus, a team of CPI-MSC will be going to Jantar Mantar soon to apprise the central government in-cluding the PM of the same, he informed.

Party state secretary L So-tinkumar, who also attended the press meet, said that it is hard to believe the central government will do anything to curb the violence consid-ering its lackadaisical attitude since the initial days of the clashes.

Even now, innocent civilians are being killed but the PM is still maintaining his silence, which interprets Amit Shah's visit to the state as a normal visit to only en-quire about the number of deaths.

Thus, the union home minister should resign from his post for failing to fulfil his responsibilities, he said, while informing that the CPI team will also clarify the false narrative being spread on na-tional media during the Jantar Mantar protest.
