Imphal, October 02 2026:
Former Chief Minister and Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Okram Ibobi has categorically stated that the incumbent State Government is under the total control of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
"As long as this puppet Government exists, there is little hope of peace and normalcy ever returning to Manipur", Ibobi stated.
The MPCC president was speaking at the 157th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and 122nd birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri observed together at Congress Bhavan, BT Road here today.

Ibobi said that unrest and violence will prevail in Manipur as long as the BJP Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah is there at the Centre.
Saying that Mahatma Gandhi's vision of a violence-free and clean India must be translated into reality, Ibobi quoted the saying, "Cleanliness is next to Godliness" .
Recalling Mahatma Gandhi's non-violent struggle against the British empire, he said that the non-violent struggles contributed significantly in ending British rule over India.
Today, many countries across the world have recognised Mahatma Gandhi as a symbol of peace and non-violence, he added.
Even the United Nations had declared October 2, the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, as the International Day of Non-Violence.
Just offering floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on the birth anniversary is not enough, all the Congress workers must work with a commitment to put Mahatma Gandhi's ideology and principles into practice.
All India Mahila Congress Committee president Alka Lamba said that all people must work together to realise Mahatma Gandhi's vision of a peaceful, violence-free and strong India.
Observing that widespread violence has been raging in Manipur for over three years under BJP Governments at the Centre and the State, Alka Lamba called upon all to work for ending violence and restoring peace in the State.
CLP leader K Meghachandra, MLAs K Ranjit, Th Lokeshwor, O Surjakumar, Lok Sabha Member Dr Bimol Ajkoijam, CWC Member Gaikhangam, ex-Ministers, ex-MLAs, ex-MPs and MPCC office bearers attended the programme during which floral tributes were paid to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri.
