Thoubal, October 03 2026:
All India Mahila Congress president Alka Lamba has said that peace and justice will prevail in Manipur if the Congress returns to power in the state.
Accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of 'vote theft' and violating people's rights to attain political power, she expressed confidence that the Congress would come to power in the upcoming elections in Manipur as well as at the Centre.
Speaking at the one-day political conference on 'Strengthening women in politics' organised by Heirok Block Mahila Congress Committee at Heirok Part-II Mayai Leikai, she criticised BJP over its approach towards women and urged women voters not to exchange their votes for money.
She alleged that BJP's initiatives and campaigns centered on women and girls had failed to address their concerns as rapists have been allowed to go free in various cases.
Highlighting the Congress's political agenda, she said the party, under leaders including Rahul Gandhi, has been working towards a "unified and just India" while accusing the BJP of pursuing politics that divides the country.
Speaking on the occasion.
Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader K Meghachandra said the Congress believes in empowering women through all possible means and assured that the party would continue to introduce initiatives aimed at strengthening women's participation and welfare if it comes to power.
He said welfare schemes initiated by the Congress focus on the well-being of society as a whole rather than narrowing down to a particular section.
Meghachandra also accused the BJP of adopting a biased approach in the implementation of welfare schemes.
Referring to reports and claims about a proposed special scheme under which women would receive Rs 10,0Q0 each ahead of the upcoming election, he alleged that women are being misled over the matter.
In view of the above, he urged people to carefully examine such claims and assess the welfare measures and policies of political parties ahead of the election.
