Imphal, January 02 2024:
A 33-year old man, accused of blackmailing a girl, was beaten to death while eight others were thrashed while 12 people involved in the beating have been arrested by police.
The deceased person has been identified as Haobam Naocha alias Thoinao (33), son of late Haobam Manimatum of Tejpur Mayai Leikai, Kakching district.
A Joint Action Committee (JAC) against the brutal murder of Haobam Naocha Singh and Fatal Torture of 8 innocent persons was formed in connection with the incident.
Speaking to media persons at Tejpur Mayai Leikai ground, JAC spokesperson Elangbam Ratan recalled that as Arambai Tenggol (AT) Unit 26 told some of the people from Tejpur to come to their office regarding the case, representatives of clubs in Tejpur and meira paibis handed them over to the unit.
However, Haobam Naocha died due to the beating and eight others sustained serious injuries.
According to a statement issued by Arambai Tenggol on social media, it clarified that AT is not related with the matter in any case.
Such clarification is irrational as the statement signified that handing over of the people to AT unit 26 located at Kakching Sumak Leikai by clubs of Tejpur and meira paibi is not related with AT.
Condemning the killing, people of Tejpur thronged Kakching police station demanding punishment of those involved in the killing.
Meanwhile, a leader of Arambai Tenggol uploaded a post on social media stating that the deceased person and his accomplices were involved in taking videos of young people in romance who meet at secluded places and extort money after threatening them.
They also black mail young girls after taking phone numbers.
The post further clarified that some members of AT Kakching unit in their own personal interest called up those involved in blackmailing and thrashed them leading to death of the person.
Those involved in the beating were handed over to Kakching police station, the AT leader added.
It further recalled that there was an order stating that all the responsibilities and consequences should be borne by those persons who acted without informing control room and HQ.
Meanwhile, Kakching police arrested 12 people who were involved in the incident and depositing the body of Naocha at JNIMS morgue for post-mortem examination.
