Chinga Session indelible in Manipur's history: Dr Nara

Communist Party of India-Manipur State Council (CPI-MSC), CPI (Marxist), Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) and Forward Bloc commemorated the 86th Chinga Session at Irabot Bhawan, here, on Monday.
The observance was attended by CPI Central Control Commission (CPI-MSC) mem ber Dr M Nara Singh, secretary L Thoiren, former secretary L Sotinkumar, CPI (M) secretary Ksh Shanta, RSP secretary Angom Manoranjan and AIFB secretary Khomdram Gyaneshwor as presidium members.
In his speech, Dr Nara recalled that the first Chinga Session was convened by Jana-neta Hijam Irabot on December 29, 1938 .
"He (Irabot) went on to establish the first political party of Manipur, 'Nikhil Hindu Manipuri Mahasabha' and stood up against the then monarchy and British Raj," Dr Nara recounted adding that the session was responsible for bringing huge social changes in Manipur despite the various challenges imposed by the then authorities.
Dr Nara continued that the Chinga Session is an important chapter of Manipur's history, ushering in a democratic and secular political movement.
He also made a strong case for the contemporary intellectuals to analyse and discuss Chinga Session, and reasoned that: "we are the direct beneficiaries of the resolutions adopted during the Session" .
He then said that the left parties took out a protest on Monday towards protecting democracy and federalism, while urging the government to preserve the same.
