Senapati, August 01 2024:
Stating that a basic problem in any place starts from unequal development, Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) chairperson (retired) Justice Utpalendu Bikas Saha asserted that corruption has no place in the society.
Speaking at a gathering at the DC Conference Hall in Senapati on his maiden visit to the district on Thursday, Justice Utpalendu mentioned citizen's rights to health facilities, water facilities, shelter and all the other needs, which would help one to survive.
He continued that with the intervention of MHRC, many pending criminal cases were processed with accused persons arrested within a fortnight based on evidences and eyewitnesses, and the charge sheet filed after 15 days.
Meanwhile, instances of other crimes where the case could not be processed or the accused persons having expired were also found.
A delay in investigation is denial of justice to the victims and denial of justice is violation of human rights, the chairperson stated, while asserting that the right to life includes the right to livelihood and right to livelihood includes decent livelihood.
Calling the need to promote tourism, Justice Utpalendu stated that the whole state could develop if Senapati develops in the held of tourism.
However, militancy, insurgency and terrorism remain the main problems deterring the development of the region.
One must know his/her rights and raise their voices and strive to work for humanity, peace and harmony, he stressed.
Regarding the present crisis, the chairperson stated that unless peace is there and people unite, Manipur cannot develop.
He continued that Manipur is like a garden, blooming with different flowers, and urged all the 38 tribes in the state to live together peacefully.
He also sought the cooperation of all concerned to protect the human rights of the society, particularly the vulnerable and poor.
He then advised that one can take up any issue at the proper forum such as approaching MHRC for any grievance, the Supreme Court or elected representatives at the higher level.
The programme was attended by DLOs, district CSOs representatives including NPMHR-S, NWU, SDSA, SDWA, KSTC, Chiefs' associations, college professors, NGOs, etc.
