Imphal, November 16 2024:
Shocked and anguished by the brutal cold blooded murder of three women and three children by Kuki-Zo-Hmar militants, a lightning shutdown was imposed at Khwairamband Keithel and people came out to streets and vehemently protested the massacre in different parts of the valley districts.
Taking serious note of the unfolding situation and the growing threats to law and order, the Government has imposed curfew in all the valley districts with effect from 4.30 pm today.
Shaken by the chilling cold blooded murder of the three innocent children and women, women vendors of Khwairamband Keithel erupted in protest and took out a rally.
As the large number of women vendors marched on, shouting slogans of condemnation and anguish, police blocked the rally in front of the Kangla western gate.
After holding talks there, 13 women leaders were allowed to meet with the Chief Minister and they were taken to the Chief Minister's bungalow by SDPO Imphal West N Ingocha.
As they reached the gate of the Chief Minister's bungalow, Khwairamband Ima Keithel Joint Coordinating Committee for Peace convenor L Memma told the 13 women leaders over telephone that they should go to meet the Chief Minister only after holding a meeting among them.
Subsequently, the 13 women leaders came back to Khwairamband Keithel without meeting the Chief Minister.
Later a joint meeting of all the women vendors held a meeting at Khwairamband Keithel.
Even though the meeting went on till evening, it could not take any consensual decision.
Some members of COCOMI arrived in the midst of the meeting and they too joined the meeting.
During the meeting, COCOMI spokesman Khuraijam Athouba read out five resolutions adopted by COCOMI and sought approval of the public.
But a large section of the, women vendors rejected by the COCOMI's resolutions.
The women vendors maintained that they must storm the residences of all legislators including that of Chief Minister N Biren.
