Poumai Nagas back Kho John for LS polls

The Poumai Naga tribe in Senapati district has announced its support for Kho John, a former UNC president and civil society activist, for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
According to a press statement from convenor and co-convenor of the election committee under Poumai Naga Union, none from the Poumai tribe has not been elected as an MP since the first Indian Lok Sabha election in 1952 .
Poumai's population and votes are divided into four assembly constituencies: Mao, Karong, Tadubi, and Kangpokpi A/C, with a total of nearly a lakh voters.
The tribe has never been any obstacles to other community candidates or the Naga peoples' cause.
Notably, Ukhrul district has had the opportunity to represent Naga as Member of Parliament (MP, Outer Manipur) for four terms, Tamenglong district five terms,'and Senapati district for two terms by Mao candidates.
This time around, the Poumai people have decided to support Kho John as their candidate in the upcoming 18th Lok Sabha elections in 2024.The Poumai people believe he is qualified for the post at this important juncture.
They appealed to all to extend support to the candidate and also urged the Naga organisations to help and not to create hurdles in the interest of all.
