'Ningol Macha Leiringei' showcased

In a momentous event, students of Moirang College premiered a play titled 'Ningol Macha Leiringei' at INA Memorial Hall, Moirang in Bishnupur district on Sunday.
The production, a manifestation of creative excellence, was brought to life by the college's theatre circle, with the support of directorate of university & higher education under the scheme of College Students Mentoring Initiatives (COSMI).
Crafted as a patriotic ode to history, the play, written by principal of Moirang College Dr Raheijuddin Sheikh, and directed by alumni member Ningthoujam Kingson Meitei, delves into the sacrifice made by an entire Meitei-Pangal family.
This family laid down their lives on March 24, 1891, while shielding Bir Tikendrajit from being arrested by the British during the Anglo-Manipuri War of 1891.The premiere show was attended by Thanga MLA Tongbram Robindro, Moirang MLA Thongam Shanti, and renowned theatre & cultural activist Loitongbam Brajamuhonas chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
At a time crucial for fostering a sense of patriotism, the production aims to instil a deep appreciation for history and the sacrifices made by forefathers.
The play serves as a reminder of the selfless acts of the Meitei-Pangal family, emphasising their commitment to protect Manipur during a tumultuous period in the Anglo-Manipur War of 1891 .
Principal Dr Raheijuddin Sheikh highlighted the significance of the play, underscoring the need to cultivate a collective sense of responsibility and unity among the youth.
The message conveyed by the play is a call to action, urging all communities to join hands and work towards bringing peace in the state, he added.
