Govt lifts mobile internet ban

Imphal, December 03 2023:
Citing improvement in the law and order situation in the past few days and taking into consideration inconveniences faced by the public due to protracted suspension of mobile internet service, the state government announced lifting of the prohibition across the state, except for the stretch of 2 km radius along the adjoining areas of some districts.
According to an order issued by Commissioner (home) T Ranjit on Sunday, the areas where the ban on mobile internet service will remain in force are the adjoining areas between Chandel & Kakching district; Churachandpur & Bishnupur district; Churachandpur & Kakching district; Kangpokpi & Imphal West district; Kangpokpi & Imphal East district; Kangpokpi & Thoubal district; and Tengnoupal & Kakching district.
The ban will remain till 7:45 pm of December 18 .
The order further instructed all mobile service providers to ensure compliance with the order and also requested all internet users to refrain from activities which may cause situations that may warrant suspension of internet services in future.
Mention may be made that High Court of Manipur had asked the government to review its decision of prolonging the ban on mobile internet service, especially in areas which are unaffected by violence.
